Wear Resistance

The resistance of steel to mechanical abrasion represents the wear resistance or resistance to abrasion.

To increase the wear resistance, metal surfaces can be treated by coating processes such as hard chromium plating. Heating processes such as vacuum hardening or nitriding also increase the wear resistance of steel.
